Misalignments or subluxations can pinch and restrict or overexcite the flow of information in the nerves. Without normal nerve flow, the affected body part doesn't get a proper message from the brain about what to do. Every cell in the body needs to communicate with the brain. Once the adjustment or treatment is done, the normal or improved nerve function is able to send the proper message to the body's cells. Releasing nerve interference allows for
normal function, and thus, healing.
In a sense, chiropractors are nerve doctors. We treat the cause of the problem, which is the body's inability to function at 100 percent because of a lack of normal nerve flow. Sleeping heals most minor subluxations; chiropractors are needed to correct the ones that don't self-correct.
Most adjustments are to the spine. Chiropractors also adjust other bones that get out of place, including:
-- Cranial (head) bones, jaws
-- Shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands
-- Ribs, clavicles (collar bones)
-- Hips, knees, ankles, and feet
Many surgeries have been prevented by the correction of a misplaced bone by a chiropractic adjustment. Feet have been saved from amputation because of improved nerve flow, thanks to chiropractic.
